Waters of Contention
Water is a vapor, a liquid, a frozen sheet of ice. It moves through our fingertips and evaporates like an escape artist into hot air. Water finds a way of its own, changing course when it pleases. Rivers, those vast collective bodies, often serve as boundaries between countries. Liquid contents daily chart their own courses, rewriting the divisions that cartographers so neatly try to map. Each of the 22 rivers used in this installation of bound and suspended model river systems divides two or more countries in dispute. Polyvinyl casing holds the waters still.
