URBAN NAPPING
Urban Napping was conceived as a means of revealing the space where “public” and “private” begin to part. Parking spaces became ideal sites for the type of intervention that I envisioned as they allowed individuals to legally acquire spaces in populated areas, and frequently bordered areas that were designated as “public.” I would legally acquire a parking space for two hours with a very small amount of coinage, then use my new space, truck, and napping device to drop my resting body over the sidewalk in a hammock. From this position I could rest, read, take naps, etc.
